Fathercraft (and our legal entity, Fathercraft, LLC), does, in some areas of this website, in emails, on social media, receive compensation from manufacturers and Amazon for purchases made via affiliate links (see more below). Here are some policies we thought worth sharing:<\/p>\n

Our unbiased editorial standard is an incredibly important asset to us.<\/span> So, we will never give a product a better review than we think it merits in order to try and increase our affiliate sales. We believe this is, first off, the right thing to do. As dads ourselves we hope everything we read is held to the same standard, and we don\u2019t mess around when it comes to information about kids. Secondly, we hope to sell our own products to people who\u2019ve found our website and read the free information we make publicly available. If we don\u2019t build trust with the users of this site, that won\u2019t work out to well. This is a more important goal than making money from affiliate sales, and we won\u2019t compromise this trust to try and increase affiliate sales.<\/li>\n
  2. The revenue from affiliate sales allows us to create more high-quality content and give it away for free.<\/span> One of our goals is to create as much high-quality, research-backed information for parents as possible, and give it away for free. Affiliate revenue is a way for us to fund the creation of this content without making our readers pay for it.<\/li>\n
  3. We do not accept free product in exchange for favorable reviews.<\/span> We do receive free products from manufacturers who hope we will review them and share those reviews with our audience. However, we make abundantly clear up front we don\u2019t guarantee a review, much less a favorable review, in exchange for receiving these free products. In fact, we had one product manufacturer reach out to ask about sending us something, after the note we sent them back on our policies, they declined to send the product.<\/li>\n
  4. We do not entertain \u2018pay-to-play\u2019 type opportunities. <\/span>Sometimes manufacturers ask to compensate us directly for publishing reviews. The answer to this is always no.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      We\u2019re receiving paid compensation from the manufacturers of some of the products we discuss on this site, and from Amazon, via affiliate links.<\/p>\n

      What\u2019s an affiliate link, how does this affect you, why does it matter, and what\u2019s our policy on compensation and affiliate links?<\/p>\n

      An affiliate link<\/span>\u00a0is a type of link that allows a product manufacturer or Amazon to track what happens after a link is clicked, and where a visit to a website originated from, with a string of characters added to the end of the link.<\/p>\n

      It looks something like this:<\/p>\n

      So that string allows a manufacturer \u00a0to tell that a visit to their site comes from us. If a visitor to their site ends up purchasing, they compensate us.<\/p>\n

      How does this affect you?<\/span>\u00a0Clicking on an affiliate link does not change the price you\u2019re charged for a product \u2013 there\u2019s absolutely no cost to you. The manufacturer (or Amazon) covers our commission. When you click an affiliate link a \u201ccookie\u201d is used to track your visit. Cookies are used by most of the websites on the entire internet, and don\u2019t pose privacy or security risks (we can\u2019t tell anything about you as an individual, only broad metrics about how our links perform.)<\/p>\n

      Why is this important?<\/span>\u00a0First of all, we want to be transparent about the fact we\u2019re receiving payment for affiliate link purchases by users of our website \u2013 we believe this is the right thing to do, and hope this transparency builds trust with you. Second, the FTC mandates use of affiliate link disclosures, so there\u2019s that.<\/p>\n

      Also, affiliate links are important to us because they help us generate revenue that funds the business. We hope you\u2019ll see them as a choice. If you found value in some information we provided, and are considering purchasing a product, if you click on an affiliate link and end up purchasing, you can help us out.
