I battled supply issues throughout the entire eight months, so even if I wasn\u2019t working, I\u2019d need to pump to help maintain my milk production. Needless to say, wireless, wearable pumps intrigue me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I haven\u2019t personally gotten to test the Elvie (yet), so I asked my friend Brooke to try it out with her second child. You\u2019ll find Brooke\u2019s pros and cons, but I&#8217;ll also walk you through how to get the right size Elvie for you at (hopefully) a better price.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"elviepumpoptions\">Your Elvie pump options<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Elvie is a women-led company, founded by a leading expert in female health (<a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/DyPGed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2593\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">their story is actually pretty cool<\/a>). At the time of writing this review, they have several pumps to choose from, including a manual pump and two electric pumps\u2014all of them are wearable (which means they fit inside your pumping bra and don\u2019t hang down from your chest). It makes sense. After all, people come in different sizes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve seen other reviews that mention it\u2019s difficult to know what size you\u2019re getting when you purchase the Elvie\u2014but we didn\u2019t find this to be entirely true. The shopping experience varies by retailer, but, as of writing this review, if you purchase from the <a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/zxEGb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2597\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">Elvie site<\/a>, you <em>cannot<\/em> add the pump to your cart without selecting a size. If you order a double pump, you\u2019ll receive two USB charging cables in your box\u2014this also means you\u2019ll need two charging blocks, which are not provided.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pumps charge quickly, taking about 2 hours. And, according to the Elvie website, one charge lasts for five pumping sessions. However, Brooke found she needed to charge them after every two pumping sessions to maintain their full suction strength. This is no big deal if you\u2019re only pumping a couple of times a day\u2014but if you exclusively pump or if you pump throughout the day at work, it could become more of an issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"suctionstrengthelvie\">Actually using the pump (i.e., suction strength) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Brooke reported that, in general, she had to &#8220;adjust her expectations&#8221; regarding what a cordless pump can do. It has its strengths&#8230; but suction strength isn&#8217;t one of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She loved that she could use them while getting ready for work once her maternity leave ended and not being attached to a wall felt like a &#8220;game-changer,&#8221; especially at first. But she also recommends having a hospital-grade pump on hand (which you can usually get through insurance) to help maintain your supply if you pump a lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As far as claims that the Elvie is the &#8220;quietest, smallest, and smartest&#8221; pump on the market&#8230; Brooke didn&#8217;t notice anything spectacular outright. But, after I asked about it, she noted that the Elvie did, at the very least, seem quieter than the Willow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"storingmilk\">Storing the milk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you pump, your milk goes directly into Elvie\u2019s reusable containers (unlike its top competitor, the <a href=\"http:\/\/willowinnovationsinc.pxf.io\/DyK0Zd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1948\" data-lasso-name=\"Pxf\">Willow pump<\/a>, which is compatible with storage bags). You might save some money this way, because you don\u2019t have to purchase Elvie\u2019s branded storage bags\u2014for example, you could get this $23 pack of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Lansinoh-Presterilized-Hygienically-Doubled-Sealed-Refrigeration\/dp\/B006XISCNA?tag=fathercraft-20&#038;ref_=as_li_ss_tl&#038;linkCode=sl1&#038;linkId=6585ca1836e02a2e7b5777685777fecb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1949\" data-lasso-name=\"Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags, 100 count\">Lansinoh bags from Amazon<\/a>. However, Brook also had this to say about the milk-transferring process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy one knock on the Elvie is the device that catches the milk is so annoyingly shaped. It feels like a game that I don\u2019t want to play trying to get the milk out into the bag.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So\u2026 that\u2019s something worth considering.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"elviepricing\">Pricing and where to buy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/zxEGb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2599\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">Elvie pump<\/a> retails at a few different places, <strong>but there are differences in the shopping experience and what\u2019s included.\u00a0<\/strong>In the time it took me to write and publish this review, I watched the price fluctuate multiple times on all the sites listed below. It seems like, generally speaking, the full price is $549.99, but it frequently goes on sale. So, keep an eye out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<span class=\"fc_text_highlight\">Important note: No matter where you purchase an Elvie, you can\u2019t return it, because it\u2019s a medical device.<\/span>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>We break down three options below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Elvie website&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At full price, you can purchase the <a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/zxEGb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2600\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">Elvie pump<\/a> on the Elvie site at the following prices:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Single pump: $299.99<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double pump: $549.99<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But, I&#8217;ve now seen it go on sale for more than 25% off <em>twice<\/em>, including at the time of publishing this article, which brings the cost of a double down to $412.49.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you purchase through the <a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/zxEGb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2601\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">Elvie site<\/a>, you can easily select your size and get an extra breast shield size with your order. Elvie also offers a warranty with products that are sold <strong><em>and shipped <\/em><\/strong>by Elvie (i.e., not Amazon). With that, you get a two-year warranty on the hub and a 90-day warranty on all washable parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Amazon&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0C4FT6Q1F?tag=fathercraft-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1953\" data-lasso-name=\"Elvie - Double, Wearable Breast Pump w\/App - The Smallest &amp; Quietest - Portable - Hands Free &amp; Discreet - Automated w\/Four Personalized Settings - Includes 3 Sets of Breast Shields\">Amazon<\/a> shows the full retail price for Elvie (the same one you see on their site), but, at the time of writing this, the price is listed at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>$229 for a single<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$440 for a double<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The biggest difference between purchasing through Amazon vs. the Elvie site is that you cannot select the breast shield size. <\/strong>All Amazon Elvie pumps come with 24mm breast shields. In the details, Elvie says one additional size option is included, but <strong><em>I could not personally figure out how to add that on via Amazon. <\/em><\/strong>User error? Maybe. But as a 21st-century mom, I\u2019m fairly Amazon-savvy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B07G3CM314?tag=fathercraft-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1954\" data-lasso-name=\"Elvie Breast Pump Breast Shield - 21mm - Nipple Flange for Pumping Breast Milk - Accessories &amp; Breastfeeding Essentials for Electric Pumps - BPA Free, Dishwasher Safe - 2 Pack\">I did find additional breast shields available for purchase for $29.99<\/a>. At the current pricing, my cart subtotal for the double pump + extra breast shields came to $469.99, which is still cheaper than paying full price on the Elvie site. So, it may be worth the extra steps. In my personal experience, insurance wouldn\u2019t cover a wearable, but it would reimburse a certain percentage. Elvie will help you get in touch with your insurance provider, but it\u2019s worth noting most insurance companies will only cover\/reimburse one pump every couple of years. So, if you\u2019re hoping to have a hospital-grade pump, too, you\u2019d be on your own.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HSA\/FSA:<\/strong> If you have one, you can often use money from a health savings or flexible spending account (HSA\/FSA, respectively) to pay for the Elvie.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Purchase the Elvie Stride instead:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/POXEVQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2602\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">Elvie Stride<\/a> is $259.99 and includes a double wearable pump. The biggest difference seems to be that the Stride has a cord, which connects to a \u201chub\u201d that controls suction strength (more like a traditional pump). Our first impressions were positive, but because of the cost, we think it very much depends on your lifestyle. In the car, in the breakroom, on a hike, on a plane, at your friend\u2019s bachelorette party, you name it.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Correct sizing: <\/strong>Elvie has gotten dinged for this by some other reviewers in the past, so it\u2019s possible they updated their shopping experience (at the time of writing, the headline on their website is literally, \u201c99 problems but the fit ain\u2019t one\u201d). Regardless, it\u2019s now <a href=\"https:\/\/elvieperformance.sjv.io\/zxEGb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"2604\" data-lasso-name=\"Sjv\">extremely easy to find and select the right flange size<\/a> as long as your order through Elvie\u2019s site.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Discreet: <\/strong>The Elvie is advertised as quietest, smallest, and smartest wearable on the market\u2014and our reviewer did find it to be quieter than the <a href=\"http:\/\/willowinnovationsinc.pxf.io\/DyK0Zd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"1960\" data-lasso-name=\"Pxf\">Willow<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"elviecons\">The \u201cwish-it-were-different\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Suction strength:<\/strong> The drawback of wearable and cordless seems to be that the suction strength isn\u2019t as strong as a hospital-grade pump. Brooke recommends also using a corded pump, like a Medela, which you can typically get through insurance (if you have it).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Battery life: <\/strong>You have to charge your Elvie pump daily. It lasts for five pumping sessions on average, but Brooke found she really needed to charge it after every 2ish sessions to keep pumping strength up.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Milk transferring process:<\/strong> Brooke\u2019s biggest knock on the Elvie\u2014because of the shape of the cups, it\u2019s tough to pour the milk into freezer bags without spilling a drop or two.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cost: <\/strong>We probably don\u2019t have to tell you twice that the cost kind of sucks\u2026 and it\u2019s one of the biggest reasons we think you should only get this pump if you\u2019re going to be pumping a lot and maybe in some not-so-typical places.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"elvieconsiderations\">More things to consider:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>You need to the right pumping bra:<\/strong> For the pump to be truly hands-free, you need a good, supportive pumping bra to hold it in place.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cleaning isn\u2019t hard, but\u2026: <\/strong>Brooke said most of the parts were super easy to clean, but you probably shouldn\u2019t boil to sterilize, because it could warp some parts.
